GRACE May Ball
The GRACE May Ball was held on Saturday 12 May by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Peter Hutley OBE, in the magnificent grounds of Wintershall in Bramley. We entertained over 230 guests in our beautiful marquee, including our Patrons Amanda Burton and Georgina Andrews. Our guests enjoyed dinner with fine wines and were entertained by 70’s tribute band Big Hair, followed by a thoroughly rousing Disco courtesy of Chris Haslam, Chess Disco. The fun didn’t stop there though as guests were entertained at their tables by the wonderful Silhouette Artist, Charles Burns, and the amazing Magician, Steve Dela.
Many thanks to everyone who bid for our wonderful auction prizes including Richard Cole, Mrs Fordham, Mrs Gill, Jayne Cassidy, Les Edgar, Mrs Robinson and Mrs Lisa Dennis who will be enjoying days at Ascot, holidaying in Italy and having a new landscaped garden pond, to mention just a few of the treats on offer. Our Auction raised over £15,000 and we must extend a huge thank you to those who donated prizes, Susie Lascelles who worked endlessly to get us some amazing prizes and who also brought along her friends Nick and Sarah Scutt on the night, with their huge scalextrix to entertain the boys. Our thanks also go to Emma Banks, Pat Westwell and Juliet Clark for their contributions also.
Together with the auction, silent auction and the Grace raffle, we raised over £22,000, which we shall use to develop our research into the causes and treatments of ovarian cancer.
Our thanks and gratitude go to Lynda Moorby and Lindsey Wright who were responsible for organising the event and who ensured the evening went with military precision. To Roger Stack, Chris Irwin and his brother Michael who managed parking and transport. To the wonderful Bill Smith whose skill and oratory ensured a successful auction. Thank you also to Penny Tree for the beautiful floral arrangements which added the final touch to the marquee. Finally, very special thanks to Mrs Angela Riddle, her mother Elizabeth, who has sadly since died and their friend and neighbour Mrs Fordham whose generosity with auction and raffle prizes played a big part in the success of this event.
